A topographical map from a century ago showing the Blue Mountains towns on the high plateau above the Jamison and Megalong valleys. Elizabeth Flats is a 10-15 minute walk from the trails along the escarpment edge, Katoomba Falls and the Three Sisters.

When you get over on another of the sandstone promontories and look back toward Katoomba, you can almost imagine you're looking at an Italian hill town. All the Blue Mountains towns, and the road and railway corridors, occupy the relatively flat "hilltop"; the park is the rugged wilderness in the eroded valley beneath it.
